What is AMA?
AMA began as an international marketing consulting firm, in 1977. Being a marketing firm, the company discovered a growing need for dynamic career coaching services. Resumes, at that time, were normally used only by business professionals and executives, but that was changing and rapidly. To capture some of this growing business activity, AMA created a department focusing specifically on jobs, careers, employment coaching-services, and related needs, plus some desktop publishing.
Since 1984, AMA has provided career-related services in the San Francisco, "Silicon Valley" and Sacramento Regions, of Northern California. AMA’s Mission—to provide career services for individuals, plus working with corporate, Human Resource (HR) departments, to assist individuals being downsized (i.e. being "dumped") from these companies. As business blossomed, referrals stimulated an expansion that includes clients throughout the nation, a most gratifying success. Now this dynamic experience is available via ResumeWinners. com.
Who Is Dr. Résumé?
Dr. Résumé (an assumed title, that clearly shows his expertise) whose real name, Carl Bascom, is the Vice President and Co-founder of American Marketing Associates (AMA). An accomplished "word-smith," writer, editor, career-coach, desktop publisher, and university adjunct-instructor, he was also the "key" career-professional responsible for developing this career-oriented business. Drawing on his decades of career-related activity, it was those creative skills that produced most of the numerous Do-it-Yourself (DIY), career-oriented instructions, guidance and unique career-tips, now available from ResumeWinners.com.
He took early retirement, in 2001, to make time for refining do-it-yourself (DIY) concepts he had been developing and testing, for years as a career-services professional. His primary aim? To make available to a far, far broader base of job-seekers, inexpensive, do-it-yourself (DIY) résumé, cover-letter, & interviewing techniquis, plus an astonishing mix of successfully proven job-lead & job-search "treasures" through ResumeWinners.com.
With this deep, hands-on background of career-coaching and career-workshops, he continues to maintain a weekly schedule—now as a volunteer—for career-coaching at two not-for-profit, career centers. One site is a Regional Employment Resource Services Center where he conducts worksops for teaching individuals resume and cover-letter writing skills using the "You're Hired" Series of workbooks. He also coaches in interviewing skills, and job-leads development, 2 ti 3 days every week—strictly as a volunteer service.
In addition to the Regional Employment Center, he also volunteers, one-evening weekly at a Christian Employment Services Center. Here he provides the same job-related services, however he has also trained 7, additional, Professional Employment Specialists, to assist in the work. This has become still another venue used for developing, testing, and refining his do-it-yourself (DIY) resume and interviewing concepts, and this "You’re Hired" Series.
Why the "Dr. Resume" Title?
He says:, "You are invited to come to "Dr. Resume" and let us help with your career needs. Our information and materials are proven prescriptions-for-success. These powerful prescriptions are useful to all job-seekers, whether professional, technical, mechanical, medical, laborer, teacher, expert, amateur, executive, student, even just entering, or just returning to the job market. However, filling these prescriptions require you to be self-reliant. This means you must seriously put into action the professional career guidance and coaching prescribed. In other words, YOU must decide whether, or not to fill that prescription. The fact is, it will only be as good as the actions YOU personally take to fill it."Our goal is to provide timely, positive, targeted, detailed, hands-on, Do-It-Yourself (DIY) career/job-help. We truly have a serious interest in your job-search, we have a proven means of assisting you, and we wish you great success, no matter what choices you decide upon. The next step is up to you."
Publications & Academic Credentials
As a Professional career-coach and marketing expert "Dr. Resume" (Mr. Bascom) has authored several publications, sold internationally, on marketing computer peripherals and software. He was a contributing author in 1999, 2000 and 2007, for three (4) different books on resume and cover-letter writing skills. Check them out they are still available from major bookstores. The titles are:

Academically, he earned a M.A. Degree in International Marketing a B.A. in Marketing & Business Administration, from San Francisco State University, and did post-graduate study at the University of London, England, in European Marketing and Consumer Behavior.
For nearly 10-years, (in addition to the ongoing career-coaching business) until 2001, he was also a part-time University Instructor, teaching graduate and undergraduate students, evenings, in Marketing, Business Management, and Communications #205, titled "Writing For The Professions," at the University of Phoenix, in San Jose, California.
